Quebec Finance Minister releases relief measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic

On March 17 and 18, 2020, Quebec released Information Bulletins 2020-3 and 2020-4 announcing tax relief measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the measures is the postponement to June 1, 2020 of the personal income tax return filing due-date for the 2019 taxation year and the postponement to May 1, 2020 of the income tax return filing due-date for trusts (other than specified investment flow-through or “SIFT” trusts) that had to file returns by March 30, 2020.

The payment of the following balances is extended to September 1, 2020: (i) any balance of tax due by individuals in respect of the 2019 taxation year; (ii) instalment payments to be made by individuals for the 2020 taxation year; (iii) Québec Pension Plan, Québec Parental Insurance Plan, Health Service Fund, and Québec drug insurance plan contributions for the 2019 taxation; and (iv) payment of Quebec corporate income tax instalments and the balance of tax otherwise due between March 18, 2020, and September 1, 2020.
