COVID-19 Tax Update: Tax Court Announces Further Cancellations

On April 7, 2021, the Tax Court of Canada released a further Notice to the Public and the Profession regarding its upcoming hearing schedule.

Previously, the Court had announced that a limited number of in-person hearings would proceed between March 29 and July 16, 2021, primarily in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.

Under the latest Notice, the Court has cancelled all in-person hearings up to July 16, 2021, as a result of rising COVID-19 case numbers across the country. Parties who wish to have their hearings proceed as scheduled prior to July 16 are able to contact the Court’s registry and make such a request. The Court may allow the hearing to proceed as scheduled, subject to the relevant local health orders.

The Court will attempt to conduct some of the postponed in-person hearings by video conference.
