Dr. Jamal Hejazi serves as the Chief Economist for Thorsteinssons LLP where he heads up the Firm’s Transfer Pricing Practice.

Dr. Hejazi works closely with the Firm’s Tax professionals to assist individuals and corporations to optimize their global tax position and reduce exposure to unfavourable audit assessments through proper tax planning and implementation strategies.  Dr. Hejazi’s practice focuses on four key areas including:

  • Advising on compliance with the transfer pricing provisions under s. 247 of the Income Tax Act (Canada), including the preparation of transfer pricing documentation and the compilation of economic reports to assist clients in determining transfer prices between international and domestic taxing jurisdictions.
  • Preparation of economic and valuation reports to assist clients in their tax planning and compliance engagements.
  • Advising clients on dispute resolution strategies related to unfavourable audit issues, including audit defense and appeals and competent authority representation.
  • Review analysis of expert reports and valuations prepared by the Canada Revenue Agency, in the context of tax audits and litigation.

In addition to client work, Dr. Hejazi is a prolific writer, having published a leading book on Transfer Pricing from a Canadian perspective, in addition to over 40 articles in various publication outlets.

Dr. Hejazi is also actively involved in community, serving on the library board in Renfrew County and actively participating in fundraisers for various charitable causes.
