Genna Wood is an associate practicing in the firm’s Toronto office.
Genna advises and represents clients at every stage of their tax disputes from complex audits and objections to appeals before the Tax Court of Canada and applications for judicial review to the Federal Court. She also regularly assists clients with voluntary disclosures and applications for taxpayer relief.
Genna uses her extensive courtroom experience and strong commercial acumen to give clients advice that engages directly with both the legal and business dimensions of their tax matters. She is best known for her rigorous analysis, practical and thoughtful advocacy, and steadfast commitment to obtaining the best possible results for clients.
Before joining Thorsteinssons, Genna practised corporate and commercial litigation at Stikeman Elliott LLP, gaining over a decade of experience acting in matters before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, and private arbitral tribunals in domestic and international arbitrations. In law school, Genna was a member of Western’s varsity rowing team and her crews won multiple national and provincial championship titles, as well as the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston and the Royal Henley Regatta in England.
Genna has been recognized by Best Lawyers for her expertise in Commercial Litigation since 2022. She is an active member of the tax law community and serves on the OBA Taxation Law Section Executive. Her articles have been published by the Canadian Tax Foundation and OBA Taxation Law Section. Genna regularly speaks at continuing professional development events.
