Alexei Paish is an associate practicing in the firm’s Vancouver office.

Alexei maintains a broad tax practice with a view towards achieving tax efficiency across his clients’ affairs.

Alexei’s advisory work relates primarily to estate planning and reorganizations of closely-held corporations. Alexei regularly advises on charitable and non-profit matters, including structured donations, charity registration and compliance, and tax-exempt organizations. Alexei also regularly advises on immigration / emigration tax planning, executive compensation, and the taxation of settlements.

Alexei maintains a taxpayer representation and litigation practice and has appeared before the Tax Court of Canada.

Alexei is a frequent author and presenter. Alexei has presented for the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia, Canadian Bar Association (British Columbia), Canadian Tax Foundation, Chartered Professional Accountants (British Columbia), and Pacific Business & Law Institute. Alexei is a co-author of The Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia’s Family Law Agreements: Annotated Precedents and a coach of the Allard School of Law’s Bowman Moot team.

Prior to joining Thorsteinssons LLP, Alexei clerked with the Honourable Judith M. Woods of the Federal Court of Appeal and practiced at a national law firm. Alexei previously worked as a professional freelance percussionist with organizations including the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Island Symphony and Theatre Under the Stars. He now plays regularly with The Lawyers Show and the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble. In his downtime, Alexei enjoys playing hockey, learning new instruments, and spending time with his family.
