COVID-19 Tax Update: Tax Court Announces Further Cancellations

On June 1, 2021, the Tax Court of Canada released a further Notice to the Public and the Profession regarding its upcoming hearing schedule.

Previously, the Court issued a Notice cancelling all in-person hearings up to July 16, 2021 as a result of rising COVID-19 case numbers across the country. Parties who wished to have their hearings proceed as scheduled prior to July 16 were able to contact the Court’s registry and make such a request.

Under the latest Notice, and in light of the evolving circumstances surrounding the pandemic, the Court has cancelled all in-person hearings scheduled between August 16, 2021 and September 10, 2021. Conference calls and virtual hearings previously scheduled will proceed and the Court will continue to identify other appeals that may be able to proceed virtually.
