Josh’s practice focuses on tax litigation and dispute resolution with the Canada Revenue Agency and Department of Justice, as well as domestic and international tax planning for individuals, trusts and corporations, including estate planning, reorganizations and business structuring.
Josh clerked at the Tax Court of Canada, after which he was Crown Counsel at the Ottawa headquarters of the Department of Justice – Tax Law Services section. As Crown Counsel, he argued before the Tax Court of Canada, drafted pleadings and conducted discoveries for general procedure files, and assisted on large appeals before the Tax Court and Federal Court of Appeal.
Prior to joining Thorsteinssons, Josh practiced in the tax group at a national law firm where he focused on tax litigation, private company planning, commodity tax and estate planning. He contributes to several tax publications and has presented at seminars for the Ontario Bar Association and Wolters Kluwer.
Josh obtained his Chartered Accountant designation at KPMG Toronto from 2007 to 2010, focusing on the audit of large financial institutions. In law school, he won the 2012 Bowman National Tax Moot and is now a member of the Bowman Moot Organizing Committee.
