Ian advises on numerous corporate and international tax-related matters, and has represented corporate clients across all industry sectors including mining, forestry, oil & gas, energy, telecommunications, real estate, and manufacturing.
Ian is the former Editor-in-Chief of the International Tax Planning Journal (Federated Press). He is also the author of the well-known text Taxation of Canadian Mining (Carswell), which was cited with approval in 2013 by the Supreme Court of Canada in the leading case of Daishowa-Marubeni International Ltd. v. The Queen, 2013 SCC 29. A former Adjunct Professor of corporate taxation at the Faculty of Law, University of British Columbia, Ian regularly contributes to tax related publications and conferences. He is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and the International Fiscal Association. Ian holds a Bachelor of Science degree from McGill University (1985) and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of British Columbia (1988). He is a member of both the British Columbia Bar (1989) and the Ontario Bar (1999).
